Story Behind An Owner of Blog Shop
My experience/story as an e-commerce clothing store owner.
I believe people who have tried to sell clothes/ products online can relate to this post.
As you may think that selling clothes online is easy and low cost. Just need to take photos, post it online and sell it. Well, that's only partly true. But there's so much more to do behind the scene.
First, we got to source for clothes that's good in quality, pretty and low in cost.
Clothes that are unique from others. But also have to be at least 80% sure that customers would love what you chose and buy them.
Secondly, when the stocks arrive, we have to open up to check and sometimes, the size, the quality and the colours differ from what you expected. We have to iron the clothes for the models to prepare for photoshoot as well. Just imagine if you have 100 pieces of clothes to iron, probably half the day will be use for ironing the clothing.
Thirdly, finding models for photoshoot. If we to hire Professional Models, we have to come out with another cost which is not cheap and of course there are some that is willing to help for free. But, sometimes you will be pai-seh as it is not easy to be a model too.
Fourth, finding a Photographer. The most important person that you need. Taking the right angle, adjusting the right lighting. Sometimes, come out with ideas on how and which post would be good as well.
Fifth, Backdrop. Outdoor shoot style or studio style (which is another cost) or where to find a plain white wall where the area is not hot, clean and near a changing room for the model's convenience.
Sixth, Keeping and tracking our stocks too. To make sure what's available is available too. So that we don't disappoint our client!
Seventh, Uploading to e-commerce. Checking that the web is fast, easy and efficient. User-friendly and attracting. Which requires a lot of effort to set up too.
Lastly, Marketing. As everywhere is very competitive now. More than 100s over online store right now. So marketing must be attractive and competitive. How should we market out, newsletter design and constant marketing. It is definitely very tedious. Especially if you are saving cost and got to do all by yourself or a working partner.
Salute to all the owners, who have been through all these and having so much patience to be successful! Well Done! (:
